John Curtis Perry

John Curtis Perry, Ph.D. chairs the Board of the Institute for Global Maritime Studies, after serving as founding President from 2007 to 2014. He is also Director of the Maritime Studies Program at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where he has held the Henry Willard Denison Chair since 1981.

Rockford Weitz

Rockford Weitz, Ph.D. serves as President and a founding Board Director at the Institute for Global Maritime Studies. He is also Entrepreneur Coach at the Fletcher School and President & CEO at Rhumb Line International LLC, a consultancy that provides strategic advice to entrepreneurs and startups. Previously he was founding Executive Director at FinTech Sandbox Inc. and founding CEO at CargoMetrics.

Benjamin Mazzotta

Benjamin Mazzotta, Ph.D. serves as a Board Director at the Institute for Global Maritime Studies. He is currently Impact Evaluation Team Leader at International Development Group. From 2011 to 2015, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for Inclusive Growth at the Institute for Business in the Global Context (IBGC), where he co-authored The Cost of Cash in the United States.

Daniel Finamore

Daniel Finamore, Ph.D. serves as a Board Director at the Institute for Global Maritime Studies. He is the Russell W. Knight Curator of Maritime Art and History at the Peabody Essex Museum, where he has organized over fifteen exhibitions. He holds a BA in anthropology from Vassar College and an MA and PhD from Boston University where he studied archaeology.

Enrique Hidalgo

Enrique Hidalgo, Ph.D. serves as a Board Director at the Institute for Global Maritime Studies. He is the President of ExxonMobil Mexico.

Sea Sovereign Thomas

Sea Sovereign Thomas serves as a Board Director at the Institute for Global Maritime Studies. Born and raised on the island of Maui, Hawaii, Sea is a U.S. Marine intelligence officer currently assigned to the U.S. Pacific Command.

Kathleen Ryan

Kathleen (Kate) Ryan serves as a Board Director at the Institute for Global Maritime Studies Inc. She has extensive fundraising experience, including successful tenures at the Rhodes Trust, the Harvard Graduate School of Design and the Office of International Alumni Affairs at Harvard University.

Andrew C. Hess

Andrew C. Hess, Ph.D. serves as a Board Director at the Institute for Global Maritime Studies. He is the Director of the Fletcher School's Southwest-Central Asia and Islamic Civilization Program, and the world's leading authority on the Battle of Lepanto, 1571.

Scott G. Borgerson

Scott Borgerson, Ph.D. is a co-founder and Managing Director of CargoMetrics. Previously, he was the visiting fellow for ocean governance at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Daniel Brutlag

Daniel Brutlag serves as a Research Fellow at the Institute for Global Maritime Studies. He is also Senior Analyst at CargoMetrics. In 2006, he sailed around the world on the Semester at Sea program.

Edward Anthes-Washburn

Edward C. Anthes-Washburn serves as a Research Fellow at the Institute for Global Maritime Studies. He is also the Deputy Port Director at the Port of New Bedford, where he focuses on business development, strategic planning, grant management and environmental issues. From January to September, 2012, Ed served as the Acting Port Director at the Port of New Bedford, where he oversaw the signing of the port's first international sister port agreement with Tuxpan, Mexico. Before arriving at the port, Ed worked in port infrastructure development at the Massachusetts Seaport Advisory Council in Fairhaven, Massachusetts.

Jonathan Reiber

Jonathan Reiber serves as a Research Fellow at the Institute for Global Maritime Studies. He is also Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Defense at Department of Defense.

Derek Kane O'Leary

Derek Kane O'Leary is a Fletcher School graduate of the Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy, having specialized in Pacific Asia and International Security Studies. He worked on the Institute's "Seaports in Decline" study.

Jack Whitacre

Jack Whitacre serves as a Research Associate at the Institute for Global Maritime Studies. He is a graduate student at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where he specializes in International Security Studies and International Negotiation/Conflict Resolution.
